Analyst

We’re excited to kick off the search for an Investment Analyst to join Canaan’s Bay Area team. This role is based in both our San Francisco and Menlo Park offices and offers a unique opportunity to work closely with our core investment team across enterprise, infrastructure, and AI.

About the Role

We’re hiring a full-time Analyst who’s eager to jump into the world of early-stage investing. This is a 2–3 year role designed for someone who’s deeply passionate about technology, endlessly curious, and excited to be an active part of the startup ecosystem. As an Analyst, you will:

• Research emerging markets and technologies
• Evaluate companies through diligence: market sizing, business model analysis, competitive landscape, and financial modeling
• Sit in on pitch meetings and help drive investment decisions
• Support portfolio companies and attend board meetings
• Manage our internal deal pipeline and CRM
• Build relationships with founders, operators, and other investors
• Contribute meaningfully in partnership meetings
• Own special projects (e.g., events, thesis development, internal tools)
• Help represent the Canaan brand and community externally

Our goal is to give Analysts a front-row seat to the VC process while offering real responsibility from day one. Past Analysts have gone on to be leaders within Canaan, join startups, business school, or other top VC firms.

You Might Be a Fit If You...

• Have 1–3 years of work experience (startups, consulting, product, or engineering backgrounds are welcome)
• Are passionate about technology, startups, and big ideas
• Are intellectually curious, creative, and analytical
• Have strong opinions—but aren’t afraid to change your mind
• Can manage multiple projects at once and thrive in a fast-moving, unstructured environment
• Are eager to hustle, build relationships, and represent Canaan in the ecosystem

• Bonus: Strong financial modeling skills and understanding of key startup metrics
