The Role

50% source and evaluate new investments:

• Actively source new opportunities across specific verticals and specific geographies with a focus on companies in the UK and Ireland
• Lead rapid initial screening of businesses for investment potential
• Provide detailed analysis / due diligence as we move closer to a deal, including market and competitive analysis, customer references and financial modelling
• Leverage latest AI tools, working with our product team, to maximise productivity

Key skills: Comfort with financial and non-financial reporting, reaching conclusions quickly based on limited information, proactive research using best in class public and proprietary resources and tools, strong pattern-recognition across a tech sector, advanced excel modelling skills, early adopter of AI and agentic tools, strong interest in technology.

40% lead deep-dives into new technology sectors:

• Work closely with one of our Partners to research and then develop our thesis in emerging technology markets
• Attend industry events, meet relevant entrepreneurs and experts
• Work with existing research tools as well as help us develop new insights and processes using third party tools and internal data and AI infrastructure
• Identify promising investments in the sector
• Present your findings to the team, and stay up to date with developments in that sector over time

Key skills: Self-motivation, strong research and analytical skills, passionate about emerging technologies, comfortable leading research projects, proactive networker, tech savvy and curious

10% support Balderton’s portfolio companies and the fund generally:

• Support portfolio companies on specific projects and research in your areas of expertise
• Represent the firm in public and online through public research and events
• Support internal events and processes in your area of expertise

Key skills: Grasp business issues, ability to multitask and present publicly, flexible on working hours and demands of the role

Required:

• Passion for emerging technologies & startups, demonstrated by deep sectoral knowledge, regular reading, knowledge of popular commentators, companies and experts
• Ability to rapidly structure and synthesise complex and fragmented information to come to an investment decision

Preferred:

• 2+ years of experience in strategy consulting, investment bank, VC, private equity, product/strategy team in a large tech company; and/or
• Founder or employee at a tech startup or scale-up
• Coding experience
• Q2 2026 start date

Important Details:

• We are able to sponsor UK work visas
• Base salary and bonus are in-line with other roles in the finance and consulting industry with 3-5 years of experience
• Role is based in London with some travel
