Three+ years ago, when I first saw a job post for an Associate role at Big Pi Ventures, I almost didn’t apply.
I remember it mentioning something like “PhD recommended” or "nice to have," and I immediately thought the position wasn’t meant for someone like me. It’s easy to look at a list of requirements and focus on the one box you don’t tick rather than the value you can actually bring to the table.
With International Women's Day yesterday, I've been reflecting and there’s actually quite a bit of research showing that women are more likely to self-select out of applying if they don’t meet every single requirement, while men tend to apply even if they only meet some of them.
I’m so glad I decided to apply anyway. For the last years, I’ve been doing work I’m genuinely passionate about, meeting incredible founders & ecosystem builders and having the chance to invest in truly state of the art and lifechanging technologies. It’s been a privilege to be part of this team, and it wouldn't have happened if I had let that one line in the job description stop me.
We’re currently hiring for our investment team, and we want the best possible candidates: men and women alike. 😊
So, I wanted to share this: if you’re reading about the role and thinking it looks interesting but you don’t tick every single box, please apply anyway. If you’re passionate about technology and you’re a natural problem solver, we’d love to hear from you.
