The Opportunity

The Romanian startup ecosystem deserves more. More education, more people and more visibility. Since 2018, Transylvania Angels Network (T.A.N.) has been determined to accomplish those goals within the Romanian startup ecosystem.

In numbers: 30+ startup investments, totaling over 3.5 million euro, 100+ active members, 60 pitching meetups, over 1000 startups analyzed, as well as 200+ of startup events in which we were intrinsically involved. T.A.N. stands strong as a respected pillar in the ecosystem.

We know that there are three key factors that will sustain our growth and improvement: motivated people, smart work and a forward-thinking mindset. Currently, 6 people are managing the organizations.

We are looking for one more intelligent and motivated person for the role of Startup Relationship Coordinator. Someone who has a passion for working with startup founders and angel investors, growing the Romanian startup ecosystem, networking, as well as becoming an integral member of a NGO team, working on achieving even greater accomplishments in the coming years!

The Role

At T.A.N., we always think in a people-centric manner. We know that angel investing and startup scouting is not something that is learned in school. Therefore, prior to joining our network we are having detailed discussions with every member, to better understand their experience and expectations.

We also prioritize having discussions and understanding the startups. Your role will include discussing with each and every startup which applies to pitch to T.A.N. members. This is a gate-keeping role to help us decide if they are ready for funding, as well as to provide them with constructive feedback, whether or not they are ready.

During each pitching meetup we designate a good portion of time for the Q&A sessions with the founder(s). Then we hold a member’s discussion about the merits or disadvantages of each one. This enables all of us to learn from both the founder’s answers, in addition to all of the member’s thoughts, questions and insights.

What You’ll Be Doing

1. For our startups

• managing / gatekeeping the incoming flow of startup opportunities and information
• replying to each startup with questions and feedback on their opportunity and docs
• holding & documenting 1:1 discussions with the startups, if they seem promising
• being part of the selection process for which startups will pitch at our meetups
• stay in touch with the startups we invested in to understand their progress and needs in order to find help for them when possible
• keep in contact with new startups which are not yet ready for investment, but could evolve to be ready in the future

2. For our members

• co-organizing the monthly event with 3-4 startups scouted and our members
• send a monthly report on the discussion you had with the startups that month and some reasons why you decided they are, or are not, ready for investment
• build a good relation with them, understand their expertise in order to connect them with startups they might be able to assist in various ways

3. For the community

• you will also represent T.A.N. at our events, ecosystem and partnerships events in Cluj and around Romania
• attending the pitching sessions of various conferences, meetups and angel networks
• organize events for startup founders with the help from other members of the team

Time dedication

• part-time (3-5 hours / day)
• flexible schedule
• at least a few days per month in Cluj

What You'll Need

• good communication, organizational, management and facilitation skills
• proficiency in English, good presentation skills, good business networking skills
• genuine interest to get to know the stakeholders, as well as to meet new people
• passion to develop a career in angel investment and venture capital domains, coupled with a keen desire to learn and understand venture & startup ecosystems
• base knowledge and interest to become deeply knowledgeable about startups and the Romanian startup ecosystem
• be present in Cluj for the most meetups / events
• own a PFA or SRL to sign a collaboration contract with us

T.A.N. is a spin-off brand of Cluj Startups, a non-profit organization formed in 2012 with the aim to support the growth of the local startup ecosystem. We are not an investment fund. Our role is to facilitate connections and investments. Each member decides individually their participation in any startup investment.

Startups need access to both funding and mentoring and investors need to learn which startups are worth investing their time and money. Transylvania Angels Network fulfills these important needs for both parties.
