The Mission:

Following the success of our investment activity to date we are excited to be expanding the Fund and are looking for an exceptional Investment Director to help shape, lead and implement best practices. The ID will be responsible for owning the investment strategy and executing it through deal origination, investing, due diligence, portfolio management and fund operations.

As an Investment Director you will report into the Flight Group Managing Director and Flight Group Board. You will work across both our internal venture fund and our external fund and your remit will cover the investment lifecycle, driving a strong deal pipeline that aligns to our core mission, delivering high financial returns, and ensure investment function runs smoothly and upholds our values and reputation

The Outcomes:

  • Lead investment team from inception, identify pre-filtered relevant investment opportunities from own and group network to close new deals.
  • Building out Flight Funds network of relationships with relevant industry stakeholders including: entrepreneurs, venture funds, corporate financiers, journalists, corporations, family offices, business angels, non-executive directors, industry executives, advisors
  • Oversee deep-dive research into key investment/ emerging tech themes
  • Championing selected deals and investments recommendations to the Board
  • Track performance of deal portfolio and prepare reports for Board and external investors
  • Own financial deal structuring and legal negotiations. Liaise with financial institutions e.g. banks, debt lenders, investors and support legal process
  • Run team and oversee / improve all investment systems processes and run due diligence on new deals
  • Fundraising - Supporting fundraising efforts as required. Supporting wider portfolio company capital raises, IPOs and M&A processes
  • Acting contact for management teams across our portfolio companies; selectively taking board observer roles
  • Investor Relations - Supporting the collation of information, analysis including valuations, and outputting of quarterly/ annual reports relating to our venture and growth funds
  • Thought Leadership - Contributing to Flight Fund’s thought leadership by supporting development of published research, market commentary and similar. Attending/ speaking at relevant industry events
  • Inspire - management responsibilities for Investment Interns, Analyst and Associates

The Competencies:

  • Deep experience in different investment structures and financial engineering
  • Track record of running a successful PE/VC portfolio ideally across one or more of the following sector; nutrition, sustainability, health tech, renewable energy, consumer products
  • Empathy and understanding to efficiently and effectively manage junior team members.
  • Great communications skills, including the ability to succinctly summarise your thoughts and analysis in writing, and prepare presentations/ investment memos.
  • First experience of independently sourcing deals, doing due diligence, deal process management and/ or first experience working with early/ late stage start-ups.
  • Proficient in financial modelling, project management, and data and reporting.
  • Demonstrated leadership abilities with skills in strategic thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making.
  • Strong regulatory, governance, and compliance knowledge, with experience in managing complex operations across various geographical locations.

  • Some roles will require global travel so flexibility in this aspect is important and your hiring manager will confirm this with you during the interview process
