Nyca Partners is a venture capital firm investing at the intersection of software and financial services. We back entrepreneurs building the critical infrastructure that connects technology to the real economy — from payments and credit to wealth management, commerce, compliance, insurance, and beyond.
Twelve years in, we’ve deployed over $900mm across more than 110 investments in companies like Affirm, Acorns, AvidXchange, Blend, Forage, Gemini, Ladder, Payoneer, Propel, Revolut, Sentilink, Thought Machine, Treasury Prime, and ZeroHash. What sets us apart is our network of financial institutions and 100+ Limited Partner Advisors. Each comes with decades of deep expertise across financial services and technology and actively support our portfolio companies as they navigate complex markets and demanding regulatory environments.
We believe this is a generational moment for financial services. As inference costs approach zero and AI unlocks industries still running on paper, emails, and phone calls, the opportunities to rebuild core infrastructure are unlike anything we’ve seen in fintech’s history.
The Role
Nyca is looking for an exceptional individual to join our investing team. You’ll be involved in nearly every dimension of how we operate: researching new verticals and building thematic research, sourcing and managing our investment pipeline, conducting diligence and writing investment memos, engaging with LPs and portfolio founders.
This is a front row seat to the most consequential infrastructure buildout in a generation, working alongside entrepreneurs who see what’s coming before anyone else does. The best candidates will bring an ownership mindset to everything they do and genuine curiosity about the companies and founders transforming this space.
Nyca prides itself on maintaining a diverse team and encourages candidates from all backgrounds to apply. Please apply via this Airtable form.
Job Responsibilities
- Collaborate with Nyca colleagues to evaluate prospective investments. Play a critical role in the entire investment process from beginning to end, including sourcing companies, meeting with founders, conducting financial and qualitative due diligence, doing industry research, and writing investment memos.
- Assist with management of investing and portfolio monitoring processes. Oversee Nyca’s investment pipeline to ensure that the team responds to inbounds and efficiently moves companies through the investment process; create materials such that the team is prepared to discuss potential investments; own some of Nyca’s regularly scheduled meetings with portfolio company founders / employees.
- Build relationships with portfolio company founders and help them leverage the Nyca network. Connect founders to resources within Nyca network, including companies and individuals in the financial services ecosystem. Assist with key areas of focus, hiring, capital raising, etc. Track Nyca portfolio company performance.
- Support Nyca’s engagement with LPs and external stakeholders. Help prepare for and participate in meetings with top financial services firms covering topics such as market research, Nyca’s portfolio and potential investments, and the impact of the macro environment on VC investing. Prepare writing on similar topics to aid in regular LP communications.
- Actively engage with the broader financial services community. Actively participate in industry events and build a robust network among entrepreneurs and investors working at the intersection of software and financial services. Develop relationships with key constituents and build trust through support and leveraging Nyca’s thought leadership. Source potential investment opportunities.
Requirements
- 3–6 years post-undergraduate experience. Many strong candidates will have a background in venture capital, private equity, investment banking, consulting, product management, engineering or operating experience at early stage startups. Candidates with other backgrounds should also feel free to apply — we want to hire the best person for the job and are not looking for a cookie cutter profile.
- Robust understanding or deep curiosity of financial services. Familiarity with sub-industry verticals such as payments, lending, compliance, insurance, capital markets, etc. Some direct experience is strongly preferred.
- Ability to work independently. Individuals must be able to manage their own schedules and balance many competing priorities. The role is fairly unstructured, and proactive individuals who know how to structure their time will thrive.
- Strong writing and analytical skills. The ideal candidate will be able to effectively synthesize information about financial markets, technology, and the state of the economy. A solid business/financial acumen is also a plus (i.e. competent in Excel, can identify financial drivers of a company, etc.).
- “Ownership mindset” and highly resourceful. Someone who succeeds in this role will feel comfortable taking ownership of all their work. When given an ambiguous task, they will distill it into something concrete and work with colleagues to identify and generate a useful work product. This person will also be good at “managing up” when working with senior colleagues.
- Executive presence. Investors need to communicate effectively with senior executives, founders, LPs, and other external stakeholders and be able to quickly win their trust and respect.
- Intellectual curiosity. Intellectual curiosity is a core ingredient in Nyca’s culture, and the right candidate will reflect this. Some knowledge of financial services and / or technology is a plus.
- No egos allowed! We are looking for someone who will be a great collaborator and partner to all colleagues.
