Keyframe is a New York City based special situations investment firm founded in 2019. We target $10-100m investments in both equity and debt securities of companies, primarily in industries impacted by technology and policy change related to energy transition. Having grown to ~$1bn of assets under management, Keyframe is at an inflection point. We believe world class operations are the foundation of an investment fund. We are prepared to invest the firm’s resources to ensure we have the operations and processes necessary to stay on offense and grow to our maximum potential. We are seeking an experienced Fund and Investment Ops Lead candidate to lead this investment.

Key Responsibilities

Take over fund & investment operations

Key fund operations areas of responsibility

  • Manage relationship with fund administrator, auditor, and banker
  • Oversee third party fund accounting, and provide appropriate reporting to GP accounting for quarterly estimates and annual tax filings

Key investment operations areas of responsibilities

  • Maintain tracking on capital requirements of the portfolio
  • Engage with portfolio company executives for a wide range of topics including valuation, loan monitoring, and general reporting

Investor Relations

  • Supporting marketing efforts, including being involved in diligence for new potential LPs and strategizing on how to close LPs
  • Engage with existing LPs on their reporting requirements
  • Manage fund liquidity and capital draws

Lead key management company functions

  • Oversee external management company accounting services (tax; bookkeeping)
  • Manage KF management company budget in partnership with lead Partner
  • Manage vendors (i.e. cyber security) and tools (i.e. Expensify, QuickBooks, etc.)
  • HR/employment management in partnership with lead Partner, including things like benefits management
  • Manage the team’s EAs who primarily support Keyframe’s partners; currently 2 – both your direct reports

Operations refresh & transition management

As described above, the firm is evaluating its suite of operations service providers. Today, this is >$1m/yr budget. You will be tasked with taking a fresh view on things, and as necessary, manage the transition to a set of providers designed for scale.

  • Assess exiting providers across all operations functions
  • Build and present a business plan for how to optimize functions, including budget, implementation timing, cadence, and transition process
  • Implement transition plan & continue to manage internal resources and external vendor relationships

While the responsibilities described here are not exhaustive, and you should expect the role to grow over time as the firm grows, these workstreams should serve as a good representative of the breadth of areas of fund operations that you will have exposure to. Some operations jobs are very siloed – not this one. Every day will be different with new learning opportunities.

Characteristics of an ideal candidate

  • Several years of fund management experience with exposure to a wide variety of fund and management company operations
  • Either local to New York City or remote and willing to travel to New York 1-2 times per month, with all travel and expenses covered
  • Growth mindset; strong desire to seek out opportunities to improve processes, and confidence in your ability to build plans to do so
  • Excellent communicator and understand how to get the information you need effectively and efficiently from others
  • Detail oriented with strong analytical and organizational skills
  • A self-starter with the ability to work autonomously
  • Strong technical accounting skills
  • Experience evaluating, onboarding, and managing mission critical vendors
