About Outlander VC

Outlander VC is a pre-seed and seed-stage venture capital firm founded and run by operators with 40+ years of combined startup experience. We back uniquely qualified founders earlier than almost anyone else — from back-of-the-napkin through early revenue — and stay in the trenches with them through every stage of the build. With 150+ investments, 18+ unicorns, and top-decile performance across all funds, we've helped our portfolio raise over $3B in follow-on capital. We're a small, high-conviction team that takes founder support seriously.

We are actively deploying our third fund. The team includes six investment partners and a CFO based between San Francisco and New York City. We’re looking to expand our operations team in either location.

The Role

We are hiring a Community and Operations Manager to be the connective tissue of Outlander — keeping our deals, community, and brand moving at the pace our founders expect from us. This is a high-ownership, zero-ego role for someone who gets energy from building things that didn't exist before and making sure nothing falls through the cracks.

You will own the process for operations of the fund: running our community events, driving our marketing presence, managing and building out our VC network, and working closely with partners on the strategic projects that keep us at the top of our game. If something isn't working, we expect you to help identify the problem and solve it.

Note: This is not an investment position at the firm and will not grow into one. Ideal candidates will have experience in platform or operations at a VC firm.

Core Responsibilities

CRM & Ecosystem

  • Own and maintain Outlander's CRM — keeping founder, and VC data current, and actionable
  • Manage and grow our VC ecosystem list: tracking relationships across funds, angels, scouts, and accelerators in partnership with the team.
  • Develop reporting and pipeline views that give the investment team clear visibility into deal flow and portfolio activity

Events & Community

  • Plan and execute Outlander's in-person events — dinners, founder gatherings, and industry meetups
  • Manage sponsor relationships: coordinate deliverables, ensure follow-through, and cultivate long-term partnerships
  • Own the guest list strategy for each event: curating the right mix of founders, investors, and ecosystem partners

Marketing & Brand

  • Manage Outlander's external presence across our monthly newsletters, social channels, and the broader VC ecosystem
  • Draft and publish content that reflects our voice: founder-first, direct, and substantive alongside the partners
  • Coordinate announcements, portfolio news, and thought leadership in partnership with the investment team

What We're Looking For

  • Based in San Francisco or New York City
  • 2–5 years of operations or generalist experience — at a startup or VC fund.
  • Experience owning a CRM or similar data system with real accountability for data quality
  • Proven ability to plan and execute in-person events, from logistics to guest experience
  • Technical curiosity — comfort with AI tools like Claude Code, Notion AI, or similar; ability to use technology to multiply your output
  • Extremely strong communication skills — written, verbal, and interpersonal
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented, with the judgment to prioritize ruthlessly
  • Low ego, high empathy, and a genuine belief that the team wins or loses together
  • Comfort with ambiguity and a bias toward action over waiting for perfect information

Outlander Culture

We back founders earlier than almost anyone else and support them more deeply than any other fund. Everyone on our team is expected to bring that same founder-first mentality to every interaction.

  • Humble, fearless, and obsessed with learning
  • Independent — you get the work done without hand-holding
  • Proactive — you raise your hand before you're asked
  • A team player who picks up what needs to be picked up
  • Tech-savvy and genuinely excited by what's being built

Compensation / Work Environment

Salary range: $120-140,000K, health/vision/dental benefits, 401K, mentorship, and a work environment that welcomes people of all backgrounds and interests.
