The Role
We are hiring a Junior Partner or Partner to join our investment team. This is an investing role for someone who has lived the founder journey and now wants to deploy that experience in venture capital. The successful candidate will execute deal sourcing, founder evaluation, investing, and portfolio support, working closely with Outlander’s senior partners to identify and back the next generation of transformative founders.
This role requires tactical expertise drawn from firsthand experience building and leading venture-backed technology companies. At Outlander, we believe founders deserve guidance from people who have truly been in their shoes.
Required Experience
This is a non-negotiable set of criteria:
- Founded and served as CEO of at least one venture-backed technology company.
- Raised at least two institutional rounds of venture capital totaling a minimum of $5M.
- Built and led a team of at least 10 employees, spanning all major functions (GTM/marketing, sales, product, engineering, HR, finance).
- Operated a revenue-generating business for at least three years, with the company surviving at least four years.
- Experienced the full founder journey, from fundraising to scaling, to setbacks and major wins.
Strong Pluses
- Experience as an angel investor, venture scout, or advisor to other startups.
- Prior experience at an institutional venture capital fund.
- Demonstrated history of mentoring or advising other founders.
Core Responsibilities
Deal Sourcing & Evaluation
- Source high-potential pre-seed and seed investments from all over the country.
- Apply Outlander’s Founder Framework to evaluate and invest in only the most exceptional founders.
- Lead due diligence, investment memos, and internal IC processes.
Founder Support
- Serve as a trusted advisor to portfolio founders, leveraging your own experience to provide practical, actionable guidance across every aspect of company-building.
- Help founders navigate fundraising, enterprise sales, user acquisition, team building, financial planning, and difficult operational challenges.
- Activate your network to drive customer introductions, key hires, and investor relationships.
- Jump into the trenches with founders any time of day or night - whenever they need you the most.
Fund Contribution
- Represent Outlander in the market, building our brand and strengthening our reputation as the founder-first fund.
- Contribute to fund operations and lead internal projects.
- Contribute to overall fund strategy and collaborate effectively with other partners.
