As we continue to grow our portfolio and expand our influence in the AI startup ecosystem, we're seeking a dynamic and experienced technical Investment Principal to join our team and play a pivotal role in shaping our investment strategy.
Position Overview:
Link Ventures is seeking a full-time Investment Principal to join our dynamic team in Cambridge, MA. This role will be pivotal in identifying, evaluating, and supporting promising AI and data science-driven startups. The Principal will be an integral part of our investment team, leveraging data analytics tools to source high-potential investment opportunities and foster relationships within the AI academic and entrepreneurial ecosystems. This role offers significant autonomy and responsibility, with the opportunity to lead deals, represent the firm on portfolio company boards, and contribute to the overall strategic direction of Link Ventures.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Investment Sourcing and Evaluation:
• Develop and maintain a robust network of entrepreneurs, investors, and industry experts to generate a steady pipeline of high-quality investment opportunities
• Utilize Link Ventures' sourcing tools to identify 1000-1500 potential investment opportunities annually
• Conduct initial outreach to startup CEOs, scheduling introductory calls and product demonstrations
• Review and analyze company models, financial statements, and market positioning
2. Due Diligence and Investment Analysis:
• Lead comprehensive due diligence processes on potential investments, including market analysis, competitive landscape assessment, and financial modeling
• Conduct in-depth interviews with founding teams, customers, and industry experts to validate business models and market opportunities
• Prepare detailed investment memoranda and present findings to the investment committee, articulating both the opportunities and risks associated with each potential investment
• Develop detailed financial models (Income Statement, Balance Sheet, Cash Flow) and structure venture capital investments
3. Relationship Building and Ecosystem Engagement:
• Attend and speak at relevant industry conferences, pitch events, and networking functions to elevate the firm's profile and attract top-tier dealflow
• Deepen relationships within MIT, particularly in the CSAIL, LIDS, and other engineering departments that have strong sources of entrepreneurs
• Deepen relationships within Harvard University, particularly in the engineering departments that have strong sources of entrepreneurs
• Actively participate in campus events and entrepreneurial activities to engage with aspiring entrepreneurs
• Collaborate with MIT/Harvard-trained partners to ensure comprehensive coverage of venture deals and increase brand awareness within the AI and tech communities
4. Deal Execution and Portfolio Management
• Negotiate term sheets and definitive agreements with portfolio companies, working closely with legal counsel to ensure favorable terms for the firm
• Serve as a board member or observer for select portfolio companies, providing strategic guidance and helping to drive value creation
• Work closely with portfolio company management teams to help set and achieve key milestones, identify potential challenges, and develop strategies for growth and eventual exit
5. Firm Strategy and Operations
• Contribute to the development and refinement of the firm's investment thesis and focus areas
• Assist in fundraising efforts for future funds, including preparation of marketing materials and participation in LP meetings
• Mentor and develop junior team members, fostering a collaborative and high-performance culture within the firm
6. Thought Leadership and Brand Building
• Author blog posts, white papers, and other content to share insights and perspectives on relevant industry trends and investment strategies
• Represent the firm at panel discussions, podcasts, and other media opportunities to enhance our visibility and credibility in the VC ecosystem
• Contribute to the firm's social media presence and engage with the broader startup community online
Qualifications:
• Education and Experience:
• Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (Computer Science, Engineering, other technical)
• MIT engineering undergraduates with deep knowledge in AI/ML preferred
• 5-10 years of experience in a technical or product role at a VC backed SaaS/AI startup; or 2-3 years in venture capital, investment banking, private equity, or management consulting
• Demonstrated expertise in AI/ML

• Strong interest in early-stage software entrepreneurship and AI technologies with wide-ranging intellectual curiosity
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Professional demeanor with the ability to interact effectively with senior executives with exceptional situational awareness
• Proficient in financial statement analysis, financial modeling, and frontier models
