Overview: Virtue is a venture capital firm exclusively serving pre-seed and seed healthcare founders. We invest $500K-$2M initially, often at the first company financing rounds, and commit to being an engaged, trusted partner to our founders thereafter in order to measurably improve their odds of success. Virtue was founded in 2021 and we have since raised a Fund II in order to double-down on our sector-stage focused strategy. We aim to develop the marquee platform that attracts elite founders who are determined to build the next generation of industry defining healthcare companies.

We are seeking a Partner/Principal to join our growing firm as we expand into our Fund II. This role is ideal for a highly ambitious individual with a robust network in the healthcare and early stage investment communities. This individual likely possesses an uncommon obsession for the ‘business of healthcare’ and an equivalent intent to materially improve the overall productivity of the healthcare sector. You will play a critical role in sourcing, evaluating, and managing early-stage investments, leveraging your domain expertise, creative problem-solving skills, and industry connections to identify and support high-potential startups. Role & Responsibilities:

Deal Sourcing, Investment Analysis and Prosecution:

  • Support / co-lead the development and prosecution of Virtue's investment strategy and thesis areas in ‘earliest stage’ healthcare technology startups by acquiring valuable technical and/or clinical insights, market intelligence, and developing a unique perspective of industry trends in order to identify compelling investment themes, sectors, and uses of new technologies.
  • Proactively identify and cultivate relationships with promising early-stage healthcare technology founders and startups – often prior to incorporation! – particularly those leveraging advanced technologies such as AI/ML and state-of-the-art data science and engineering capabilities.
  • Expand our investment opportunity scope into burgeoning sectors (e.g. functional medicine, data privacy/security, clinical coding/documentation, supply chain, etc.), advanced technologies (e.g. AI/ML, robotics, signal processing, data integration/transformation, etc.), cross-sectional opportunities (e.g. healthcare x AI / crypto / gaming / etc), and unique distribution channels (e.g. open-source, PLG, D2C, etc.).
  • Conduct rigorous due diligence on potential investment opportunities, assessing the technical feasibility, scalability, and market potential of innovative healthcare technologies, with a focus on addressing unmet needs and/or misunderstood market opportunities and ensure alignment with our investment criteria and risk-return profile.
  • Push the envelope by pursuing both ‘in-system’ and ‘out-of-system’ healthcare startups to ensure our competitiveness at the frontier of earliest stage healthcare venture investing.

Network and Relationship Management:

  • Cultivate and maintain breadth of relationships across the healthcare technology ecosystem, including founders/operators, VC, industry leaders, and strategic partners, to stay abreast of emerging trends, identify investment opportunities, and enhance Virtue's visibility and reputation.
  • Lead/co-lead network relationship strategy with leading pre-seed and seed stage-focused firms (healthcare & non-healthcare firms) and establish trusted stage-based co-investor relationships.
  • Develop strategies to collect structured market intelligence data specific to our investment strategy. Identify and secure valuable external data partnerships that improve the overall quality of our input data

Fundraising and Investor Relations:

  • Support fundraising efforts for Virtue's earliest stage healthcare technology-focused funds, contributing to the development of marketing materials, investor presentations, and due diligence materials tailored to institutional investors, family offices, and other strategic partners interested in earliest-stage healthcare technology investments.
  • Engage actively with existing and potential limited partners, providing transparent updates on fund performance, investment pipeline, and portfolio progress, while addressing inquiries and concerns related to investment strategy, risk management, and value creation.

Qualifications & Requirements:‍

  • Domain Expertise: Bachelor's degree in a technical and/or healthcare field or a discipline(s) rooted in critical reasoning. Ability to serve as a source of knowledge of industry practices and processes to evaluate and support companies. Ideally, experience working with healthcare data, which could include anything from maintaining the data pipeline architecture at a healthcare organization to creating and maintaining integrations with key clinical and financial systems (EHR, Practice Management, Claims, ERP, etc) to scoping, building, and deploying AI applications in healthcare.
  • Venture Capital / Startup Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in venture capital, private equity, management consulting, or VC-backed startup operations (bias towards founder or early operator with successful 0→1 experience), with a proven track record of successful early-stage investments in the healthcare sector.
  • Industry Network: Robust network of founders, investors, industry experts, and healthcare professionals.
  • Analytical Skills: Strong analytical and financial modeling skills, with the ability to evaluate complex business models, market opportunities, and technical solutions.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate investment theses, present recommendations, and build rapport with diverse stakeholders.
  • Entrepreneurial Mindset: Entrepreneurial mindset, ambition, and self-motivation, with a proven ability to thrive in dynamic, high-growth environments.
