Paladin is adding a Senior Associate to support the activities of the firm’s investment team and investment processes. This individual will interface with senior members of the investment team, and operations/finance teams to support all phases of Paladin’s investment process including preparing presentation materials, creation of financial models and analyses, business and market research, participating in due diligence, preparing weekly management reports and maintaining tools and databases associated with tracking investments and investment opportunities.
This role is full time, based in Paladin’s Washington DC office and reports to Chris Steed. This role is not eligible for remote work. Please note that relocation costs will not be covered by the company.
Key Responsibilities
- Under the guidance of an investment lead, independently source deals and companies for the deal team by cold calling/emailing start-up management executives, networking with relevant members within the VC and cybersecurity community and attending conferences and events.
- Engage in and take responsibility for due diligence and evaluation of companies for potential investment by Paladin
- Conduct in-depth market research as directed by investment leaders to uncover new investment opportunities and themes.
- Build relationships within the Venture Capital and Cybersecurity community through industry events, cold outreach, developing a personal network and developing rapport with portfolio company employees and executives, etc.
- Prepare presentation materials and detailed information memorandums (slide decks, etc.) on portfolio companies for new and follow-on investments for direct fund and co-investment opportunities
- Utilize Excel for building financial models, pro forma cap tables based on various financing scenarios, financial return profiles, scenario analyses, and other Excel-based business/financial analyses to support all phases of the investment process
- Develop a strong understanding of the market, business, metrics, and prospects of key portfolio companies to communicate effectively both internally and externally
- Interface with portfolio companies or other external parties to gather performance information for quarterly reporting and compile information to support various steps of the investment process
- Prepare and communicate quarterly updates on Paladin’s funds and its portfolio companies
- Support the investment team and interface with the firm’s back office during the legal documentation and closing process
- Travel to relevant conferences (RSA, BlackHat, etc.) and attend industry events.
- Consistently demonstrate initiative to take on tasks beyond immediate role
- 4 days a week in the office required, 1 remote day
Key Qualifications
- 3 - 5 years of experience in relevant fields such as investment banking, private equity/venture capital, or a related field
- Four-year degree in finance, economics or a related field
- Working understanding of the application of AI to investment processes and analysis
- Strong business and financial comprehension and analytical capabilities, preferably with prior experience exposure to technology/software
- Intermediate to advanced skills in creating effective visuals and presentation materials with PowerPoint
- Intermediate analysis and investment modeling skills with Excel. Understanding of other analytics tools,
- Preference for experience with Pitchbook, Crunchbase and other industry information tools
- Highly organized with attention to detail, and highly collaborative.
- Must be creative in preparing new reports and analyses based on guidance from management
- Excellent written and verbal communications skills
